AN ACT to raise Harare to the status of a City, to enable it to be called a City and to alter the title of the Council of the Municipality of Salisbury.
WHEREAS it is desirable, in the interests of the community of Harare, to declare the Municipality of Salisbury to be a City and to alter the name or title of the Council of the Municipality of Salisbury from that of the Municipal Council of Salisbury to that of the City Council of Harare:Now, THEREFORE, be it enacted as follows—

1. Short title

This Act may be cited as the City of Harare (Private) Act [Chapter 29:04].

2. Alteration of status and title of City of Salisbury

The status of Harare shall be and is hereby altered from that of a Municipality to that of a City and its name or designation from that of the Municipality of Salisbury to that of the City of Harare.

3. Title of City Council

The title of the Council of the City of Salisbury shall be and is hereby altered from the Municipal Council of Salisbury to the City Council of Harare.

4. Construction of references

Wherever in any enactment or in any deed, memorandum, agreement or other document, reference is made to—
(a)the Town of Salisbury, the Municipality of Salisbury or the City of Salisbury, such reference shall, where appropriate, be deemed to be a reference to the City of Harare;
(b)the Town Council of Salisbury, the Municipal Council of Salisbury or the City Council of Salisbury, such reference shall, where appropriate, be deemed to be a reference to the City Council of Harare.
