AN ACT to raise Bulawayo to the status of a City, to enable it to be called a City and to alter the title of the Council of the Municipality of Bulawayo.
WHEREAS it is desirable, in the interests of the community of Bulawayo, to declare the Municipality of Bulawayo to be a City and to alter the name or title of the Council of the Municipality of Bulawayo from that of the Municipal Council of Bulawayo to that of the City Council of Bulawayo:Now, THEREFORE, be it enacted as follows–

1. Short title

This Act may be cited as the City of Bulawayo (Private) Act [Chapter 29:02].

2. Alteration of status and title of City of Bulawayo

The status of Bulawayo shall be and is hereby, as and from the 4th November, 1943, altered from that of a Municipality to that of a City and its name or designation from that of the Municipality of Bulawayo to that of the City of Bulawayo.

3. Title of City Council

The title of the Council of the City of Bulawayo shall be and is hereby, as and from the 4th November, 1943, altered from the Municipal Council of Bulawayo to the City Council of Bulawayo.

4. Construction of references

Wherever in any enactment or in any deed, memorandum, agreement or other document, reference is made to—
(a)the Town of Bulawayo or the Municipality of Bulawayo, such reference shall, where appropriate, be deemed to be a reference to the City of Bulawayo;
(b)the Town Council of Bulawayo or the Municipal Council of Bulawayo, such reference shall, where appropriate, be deemed to be a reference to the City Council of Bulawayo.
