AN ACT to raise Mutare to the status of a City, to enable it to be called a City and to alter the title of the Council of the Municipality of Umtali.
WHEREAS it is desirable, in the interests of the community of Mutare, to declare the Municipality of Umtali to be a City and to alter the name or title of the Council of the Municipality of Umtali from that of the Municipal Council of Umtali to that of the City Mutare:Now, THEREFORE, be it enacted as follows—

1. Short title

This Act may be cited as the City of Mutare (Private) Act [Chapter 29:05].

2. Alteration of status and title of City of Umtali

The status of Mutare shall be and is hereby altered from that of a Municipality to that of a City and its name or designation from that of the Municipality of Umtali to that of the City of Mutare.

3. Title of City Council

The title of the Council of the City of Umtali shall be and is hereby altered from the Municipal Council of Umtali to the City Council of Mutare.

4. References to include references to City Council of Umtali

Wherever in any enactment or in any deed, memorandum, agreement or other document, reference is made to—
(a)the Town of Umtali, the Municipality of Umtali or the City of Umtali, such reference shall, where appropriate, be deemed to be a reference to the City of Mutare;
(b)the Town Council of Umtali, the Municipal Council of Umtali or the City Council of Umtali, such reference shall, where appropriate, be deemed to be a reference to the City Council of Mutare.
